Vikings eye return to Top 20

The NCAA Division II Top 20 wrestling poll was released last week, and for the first time in coach Jason Reitmeier’s 11 seasons as head coach, Augustana was not on it.

For a proud program that has produced countless All-Americans, more than a handful of national champions and competed for team titles regularly, this isn’t an insignificant snub. And while it might seem like the perfect incentive to put a chip on Augie’s shoulder, the reality is that it might not be a snub at all. The Vikings finished 31st in the team standings at last year’s nationals, so as much as it hurts for them not to see their team name among the top contenders, they know why it happened.
