Brock Lesnar vs. Finn Balor Off the Table, Update on Lesnar Feuds

When Finn Balor returned to WWE from an injury earlier this year, Balor teased pretty early on that he was going to go after the Universal Championship that he was forced to relinquish after suffering the aforementioned injury. We haven’t heard much of anything about Balor being a title contender ever since he lost the Fatal 5-Way match at Extreme Rules. Dave Meltzer noted on the Wrestling Observer Radio show that WWE did apparently have plans to put on a “Demon King” vs. “The Beast” match for the title at one point, however, he mentioned that any plans to have Balor face Lesnar have seemingly been dropped at the moment.
Brock Lesnar is currently about to face off against Samoa Joe at the inaugural Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view show. Should he retain the title, the belief is that Lesnar is going to be moving on to face Roman Reigns at SummerSlam. The rumored Wrestlemania main event match is supposedly being bumped up to SummerSlam to have Reigns win and become a full-time champion. There are also rumors that Seth Rollins could be facing Brock Lesnar at the Survivor Series pay-per-view in November to promote the WWE 2K18 video game, much like they did with last year’s Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar main event. That match could be done at the show even if Lesnar is no longer champion by then.
While a feud with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins could provide some fantastic matches from Brock Lesnar, it does appear that a feud with Finn Balor is no longer in the cards. The size differential between the two men would make for a very interesting dynamic, but Balor is currently in a feud with “The Drifter” Elias Samson, which Meltzer claims is only to kill time until the company finds a better program for Finn. A rumored match between Raw superstar Braun Strowman was also in the works for months for Brock Lesnar, but now that match seemingly won’t be taking place either. If Reigns vs. Lesnar is not the SummerSlam main event next month, it could be a Fatal 4-Way involving Reigns, Lesnar, Samoa Joe, and Strowman all fighting for the title.
