Latest Update on Matt Riddle, Possible SummerSlam Plans for Asuka

Matt Riddle has become one of the most talked about wrestlers over the past few weeks and there are a ton of rumors out there right now concerning his future in the industry. For those who do not know Riddle, he competed in UFC before he was fired due after testing positive for marijuana. Riddle then began competing in the wrestling ring and has become a real standout performer on the independent circuit, but major promotions have reportedly held off on signing Riddle to a deal due to his advocacy for marijuana. That all changed earlier this summer after it was reported and later confirmed by Riddle that both WWE and New Japan Pro Wrestling have contacted him and are eager to sign him.
The belief for quite some time now has been that Riddle will be joining WWE and starting off on the NXT brand during SummerSlam weekend. He has been pulled from several independent wrestling shows past the SummerSlam date this month, and several reports have claimed that Riddle has already signed a three-year deal with the company. Additionally, PWInsider has now just reported on their Elite audio show that Riddle will indeed be starting his WWE career off in NXT during the NXT Takeover: Brooklyn event on the night before SummerSlam. Just like WWE has done before with Bobby Roode, Drew McIntyre, EC3, and Keith Lee, the plan is to debut the former MMA fighter by showing him watching the action in the crowd.
Asuka has already had a few different opportunities to win the Smackdown Women’s Championship and dethrone Carmella, but she has not been very successful thus far. However, according to several sources, “The Empress of Tomorrow” will challenge Carmella for the title again during an upcoming Smackdown show in Orlando, Florida this Tuesday night. Much like how Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair earned their title shots by defeating Carmella recently, fans have speculated that Asuka could defeat the champion this week and then join Flair, Lynch, and “The Princess of Staten Island” in the planned championship match at SummerSlam, thus turning the match into a Fatal 4-Way.
