The first game set face to face Vannes and Istres. For a first timer in LAF, Vannes managed to get off with one point after losing 14-16 in tie-break. Unusual stats for their two middle-blockers – Bianca Rowland (20 points) and Kathleen Slay (19 points) managed to push the game to tie-break (16-25, 25-23, 25-17, 20-25, 14-16). Best scorers on the other side: Tara Mueller and Odette Ndoye, each with 17 points. A thrilling first game of this season!
Nantes pulled off a convincing straight-sets (14-25, 19-25, 15-25) victory against St-Raphaël. Similarly to the previous season, Ariel Turner stands out as best scorer of the game with 18 points.
It seems Terville tends to create a tradition out of being the big surprise in the beginning of each season. In 2013-2014 they managed to strike against Mulhouse in 5 sets and tonight , against all bets, they bagged a straight sets victory against Venelles: 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-16).
The second day brought no surprises except the set St-Cloud managed to steal from Cannes. Le Cannet pulled off a stunning straight-set victory against Le Hainaut (25-21, 25-22, 25-23). Elisabeth Fedele and Myriam Kloster, both national team players, managed to score together 27 points, while on the other side Dana Knudsen brought Le Hainaut 11 points.
CANNES – PARIS ST CLOUD: 3-1 (25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 25-20)
The game obviously did not disappoint with the latter taking the fight to the last 17 years’ champion, RC Cannes. A well deserved victory for Ravva and her team mates, despite a third lost set. Best scorers on the court: Juliann Faucette (RC Cannes) with 17 points and Nina Coolman (St-Cloud) with 19 points.
By far the derby of the opening day, Mulhouse had their revenge against Béziers, the team that ‘overthrew’ them from the podium last two seasons. Tanja Bokan (12 points) and Stephanie Niemer gave Béziers no chance to the victory.
