Mega Millions $1.6 Billion Draw: 10 Biggest Lottery Jackpots Ever

The grand prize in the Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, Mega Millions lottery game currently sits at $1.6 billion, making it the largest U.S. lottery jackpot of all time. It could go even higher before the drawing at 11 p.m. Eastern Time as Americans flock to retailers to buy a ticket for the game that could set them — along with their friends and family and a worthy cause or two — for life.

And it’s chump change compared to the previous record jackpot for the Mega Millions game. That was set in 2012, and the jackpot was $758.7 million

Cash value: $983.50 million
Details: On Jan. 13, 2016, there were three winning tickets in California, Florida and Tennessee valued at $327.80 million a piece.

Jackpot: $758.7 million
Cash value: $480.50 million
Details: On Aug. 23, 2017, there was one winning ticket in Massachusetts, making this Powerball prize the biggest jackpot and cash value for a single lotto ticket in U.S. history.


3. Mega Millions, 2012

Cash value: $474 million

Details: On March 30, 2012, there were three winning tickets in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland, with each ticket valued at $158 million each.


4. Mega Millions, 2013

Jackpot: $648 million
Cash value: $347.60 million
Details: On December 17, 2013, two winners in California and Georgia took home a prize of $173.8 million each.


5. Powerball, 2013

Jackpot: $590.5 million
Cash value: $370.9 million
Details: On May 18, 2013, a winner in Florida took home the grand prize of $370.9 million.


6. Powerball, 2012

Jackpot: $587.5 million
Cash value: $384.7 million
Details: On November 28, 2012, two winners in Arizona and Missouri took home $384.7 million each.

Details: On July 24, 2018, the winner of the jackpot was in California.

Cash value: $378.3 million
Details: On July 8, 2016, an Indiana winner took home the lottery prize.
