JoAnne Bennett, CPA CGMA, who has 15 years’ experience in nonprofit accounting with one of the largest CPA and advisory firms in the United States, has been selected chief financial officer (CFO) of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), effective November 9.
Bennett will succeed Kathleen Rodewald, who is retiring November 30 after 10½ years as the organization’s CFO.
Bennett, a 1997 graduate of the Indiana University Kelly School of Business, worked in a variety of capacities for BKD LLP, a nationally recognized accounting and advisory firm. She began her career in the Indianapolis office for nine years, serving as a staff accountant, senior/supervisor and manager.
In 2007, Bennett moved to the Denver office of BKD LLP and served as manager for one year and senior manager for five years before returning to Indianapolis in 2013 to become director of finance for MIBOR REALTOR ASSOCIATION.
During her seven years in a management role with BKD LLP, Bennett was responsible for the strategic and marketing plan of the firm’s Denver not-for-profit practice to ensure new business development, and she conducted four annual seminars for clients on relevant financial and tax topics.
In her two years with MIBOR, Bennett managed all financial aspects of the association, including development and enforcement of the financial policies, preparation and management of annual budgets, and coordination of the annual audit and tax preparation processes.
Bennett is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA). She is also credentialed by the Indiana CPA Society and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
“We are excited to have JoAnne join our team and bring her wealth of not-for-profit auditing experience,” said Bob Gardner, NFHS executive director.
