Jurgen Klopp practically confirmed the signing of Takumi Minamino as the Liverpool manager spoke for the first time on the transfer.
Liverpool reached the Club World Cup final with a last-gasp 2-1 victory over Monterrey on Wednesday evening.
The Reds were below-par in Qatar in a performance which proved why Klopp has sought the signing of Salzburg forward Minamino.
The Japanese international reportedly underwent a medical ahead of the planned move on Wednesday morning, with the £7.25m deal set to go through on January 1.

Klopp was asked about the situation after beating Monterrey, and accidentally all but confirmed the deal.
“Is it official yet?” he asked the club’s press officer. “No. Oh, I can’t speak about it.
“But if he could come… he’d have been really good here today, I could have brought him on.
“But we have to wait for that one. Sorry.”
On the game itself, the German added: “It wasn’t possible for it not to be won in not a hard way. We have seen teams try everything to be successful. They fought really hard.
“We had problems before the game. We knew we’d have them in the game too. So many strange things happened. It was the most offensive midfield I have ever put out in a competitive game. Henderson centre-back for the first time. We didn’t have much height at centre-back.
“I’m really happy with the performance as I knew before the game it would be really tough.”
