Everton have made an official approach to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as their permanent manager.
Reports emerged on Monday evening that Ancelotti had ‘agreed’ a deal to take over at Goodison Park.
But the award-winning The Athletic state only that a formal approach was made, with the Italian ‘now deliberating over the proposal’.
Everton, who ‘never considered’ Duncan Ferguson ‘a long-term option’ despite his impressive impact since taking interim charge after Marco Silva’s sacking, ‘want to hold face-to-face talks with Ancelotti this week’.
The former Napoli and Chelsea manager had planned to return to Naples on Tuesday before going on holiday to Vancouver on Thursday, but ‘is considering a lucrative offer and sources close to the Italian are increasingly convinced he is likely to accept’.
Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri maintains an interest in both Mikel Arteta and David Moyes, although the former seems likely to take over at Arsenal.
