Newcastle boss Steve Bruce bemoaned the performance of referee Tim Robinson, officiating in his first Premier League game.
The Magpies lost 1-0 to Burnley at Turf Moor and Bruce insisted the referee made a clear mistake in the build-up to Chris Wood’s decisive second half goal.
Steve Bruce told Sky Sports: “The referee, it was his first game, and unfortunately it looked like it.”
On Burnley’s goal: “He’s [referee Tim Robinson] yards away, we thought he blew for a foul. Unfortunately I think he’s found it difficult today from the very first whistle.
“It’s a foul. It’s a push in the back and it’s decided the game. If it decides the game it’s a big call. There were too many mistakes and he’s made a rod for his own back.
“We knew what to expect, especially on a day like today it wasn’t going to be the prettiest.”
