If Passed, The Citizenship Amendment Bill Will Help 31,000 Immigrants, But Opposition Is Growing, Even From Within BJP

A total of 31,313 immigrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh from non-Muslim communities and have been living in India on Long Term Visa (LTV) after they sought refugee here on grounds of religious persecution back home will be the immediate beneficiaries of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

According to the IB report submitted to the Joint Parliamentary Committee, immigration from five religious communities from the three countries have applied from citizenship.
