Real Madrid and Tottenham are reportedly engaged in negotiations over a swap deal which would see Karim Benzema and Harry Kane trade places.
Tottenham are asking Real for their £68m-rated (€80m) striker Benzema, plus £103m (€120m) in cash, to part with Kane, who is valued at £171m (€200m) by Spurs, reports ElDesmarque.
The talks are said to be ‘quite advanced’ but the Spanish outlet also claims Kane’s price tag as well as Benzema’s wage demands could be a sticking point.
Florentino Perez believes the England captain is worth significantly less than Spurs’ valuation, around £120million, while Karim Benzema’s desire to become Real Madrid’s highest earner, would mean Tottenham would have to completely change their wage policy to sign the Frenchman.
Earlier this season former England star Rio Ferdinand advised Kane to leave Tottenham.
“If you look at it as if you’re an individual, put yourself in like Harry Kane’s shoes, you’re saying ‘I’m off’,” Ferdinand said.
“I’ve got to be honest with you, I’d be gone because I’ve not got time to hang around. I could get injured next season, I could lose form etc. I want to win now.
“‘I’ve given most of my career to this club and they haven’t [won anything]’.
“Yeah, you go very close, you can keep going very close, they’ve been close a few times of winning the league and then obviously the Champions League. It’s not enough.
“I can understand Eriksen, you can understand Eriksen’s frustrations and wanting to leave and saying ‘I want to go somewhere and potentially win something’, not be a maybe.”
