Julien Macdonald launches eyewear collection

London Fashion Week designer Julien Macdonald has teamed up with optical
retailer Vision Express to launch his first eyewear collection.

Exclusive to Vision Express, the 17-piece women-only optical collection
pays homage to Macdonald’s glamorous catwalk creations, featuring mirror
and crystal motifs alongside metallic prints and Art Deco design, and
includes both metal and acetate frames in full and half rim designs.

Macdonald who has an on-going collaboration with high street department
store Debenhams worked with eyewear manufacturer OA Eyewear to develop the
collection, in a process which took almost a year. OA Eyewear interpreted
the designer’s original sketches into a finished product, with consultation
and input from Macdonald at each stage of the manufacture.

Commenting on the launch, Macdonald said: “As I expand into eyewear, it
was important that the collection accurately embraced the design and
detailing that people know and love about the Julien Macdonald fashion
house.

“Glasses are as much a statement fashion accessory as a handbag or
earrings. For me it’s about completing the picture, by having a pair of
eye-catching frames to complement any outfit, and for any occasion. These
are definitely not glasses to hide behind – these frames will put the
wearer bang in the spotlight.”
