Chelsea ‘allowed to be excited’ by sixth straight win – Lampard

Frank Lampard was “delighted with every element of the performance” Chelsea put in against Ajax.

Chelsea took control of Group H with an excellent win away at last season’s Champions League semi-finalists, with Michy Batshuayi scoring the only goal.

The Blues benefited from VAR ruling out Quincy Promes’ opener, but took full advantage with substitutes Batshuayi and Christian Pulisic combining late on.

It is Chelsea’s sixth straight win and second successive clean sheet in all competitions as they continue to grow and develop under Lampard’s management.

“I’m delighted with every element of the performance,” he said.

“It feels huge – it’s just six points in the group and we play Burnley on Saturday. But I think we’re allowed to be excited tonight.

“That’s the blueprint. There are no excuses for us now. That’s the standard and we can’t drop it.

“The young players are still babies in terms of Champions League minutes so this was a huge test for them.

“There was a good balance of young players and experience. We need to realise the things that made that happened tonight because Ajax are a top, top team.”
