The striker’s side have started the season strongly and he believes they can beat the European champions when they meet on Saturday night
Real Madrid have not lost their attacking threat since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, according to Espanyol’s Borja Iglesias.
Ronaldo ended his record-breaking nine-year spell at Madrid in the summer when the Portugal international decided to join Serie A champions Juventus.
However, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema have stepped up following Ronaldo’s exit, and Iglesias does not feel Madrid are suffering without their former talisman.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has shown that he can score goals. I don’t think Real Madrid have lost that,” the forward, whose Espanyol side travel to the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, told Marca.
“That’s the truth. There are others who do that very well and who are capable of doing what he does.

“They can be beaten. Any team can be beaten.
“However, it obviously requires a lot to take a match like this and we are aware of that. But, why can’t we beat Real Madrid?”
Iglesias joined Espanyol in the summer in a €10 million (£8.9m/$11.8m) transfer from Celta Vigo, and has had an impressive start to his career under new manager Rubi, helping his side to reach fourth in the table with one assist and one goal.
“For me, it was relatively simple,” he explained. “When this option was proposed to me, with the style of play here and the project at the club, it all motivated me a lot.
“This was a place where it seemed like it had what I needed at this time. It was very simple.”
Since making the move, Iglesias has been impressed with the club’s young manager and the effect that his competitiveness has on his players.
“I think that for somebody who competes, it is important to have this mentality and to see that you have a chance and to believe you can grab your chances.
“I believe that being ambitious is good, as long as you are also respectful. Bravery and boldness are adjectives that describe this Espanyol team and I think that’ll also be true when we play against Real Madrid.”
