Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel on Thursday warned possible GOP primary challengers to President Donald Trump in the 2020 election that they can enter the race, but they will "lose horribly."
"They have the right to jump in and lose, that’s fine," McDaniel said while speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who ran in 2016 and has consistently bashed Trump, and Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, the first Republican to win a second term in over 50 years, are weighing possible 2020 presidential bids.
"They will lose horribly," McDaniel said of any primary challenger.
The RNC chair touted Trump’s record, claiming that the U.S. is "booming." Currently, Trump’s approval rating is at 43 percent, according to an average of polls from RealClearPolitics.
"What would any Republican be thinking saying, ‘This is a guy I’m going to run against’?" McDaniel said.
"So have at it, go ahead, waste your money, waste your time and go ahead and lose," she concluded.
