Pundit: Man Utd players would ‘struggle’ to get on City’s bench

Chris Sutton thinks Manchester United would “struggle to get a few representatives” on Manchester City’s bench.

United can have a major say in who wins the Premier League title this year when they face City at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, when a home win would hand the initiative to Liverpool.

Solskjaer’s first few weeks in charge brought hopes of a swift return to competitiveness as United took 25 points from a possible 27.

But United have now lost six of their last eight, a run largely coinciding with the Norwegian getting the job on a permanent basis.

And former Blackburn striker Sutton doesn’t rate United’s chances of springing an upset against City on Wednesday.

“If you’re asking me how many Manchester United players would get into this Manchester City team, I’d have to say none,” Sutton told the Daily Mail. “They’d even struggle to get a few representatives on the bench.

“So if United are to get a result at Old Trafford, what is required is a total team performance. If Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side compete at anywhere near the level they did at Everton , then they could be in for a mauling.

“They can’t go toe to toe. I know some United fans would want that, because that’s what they’ve grown up seeing over the years, but I don’t think they can beat this City team that way. They’re not at that level, either in confidence or ability.”
