As noted, WWE Champion AJ Styles is currently dealing with an undisclosed injury which has kept him out of the ring since last Friday night’s WWE Live Event at Madison Square Garden.
During a recent interview with CatchNewz, Triple H noted Styles “is working diligently on rehabbing his injuries and getting himself in tip-top shape for Wrestlemania. We’re hoping for the best. Right now, he says he’s feeling a lot better and we’ll be ready to go. Obviously, we’ll get him doctors to make sure that he is ready to go and get him medical clearance if that’s possible.”
According to PWInsider.com, Styles is scheduled to return to the ring at this weekend’s WWE Smackdown live events, however, he will be competing in eight-man tag team matches alongside The New Day against Rusev, Aiden English, Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable. While not confirmed, it’s likely Styles is being booked in eight-man matches in order to limit how much work he will have to do in the ring.
As of this writing, Styles remains scheduled to face Shinsuke Nakamura in a WWE Title main event match at WrestleMania 34. Styles spoke out on his injury status earlier this week during an international media call and noted, “If my leg got cut off I’d find a way to make it to WrestleMania. So, I think just to answer that question, I will be wrestling Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania. Don’t worry about it, it’ll be fine.”
